Freya Fennwood about
It’s all about fun. To capture people having fun in the outdoors, you have to have fun in the outdoors. Freya shoots in a style that puts her subjects at ease and brings their playful side out while still getting important branding needs into the frame. Freya's work is less about death-defying moments and more about the joy of being outside. That said, she also enjoys Type 2 fun and loves winding her commercial and editorial work into her passion for sea kayaking, rock climbing, backcountry snowboarding, mountaineering and mountain biking.
Not just a photographer
Specializing in full-production shoots that include concept building, location scouting, model casting and prop wrangling, Freya and her team can produce shoots from a 20-person cast in Mexico to a 3-person backcountry trip in the North Cascades. If you are not sure what you want, get in touch and we can begin brainstorming. If you know what you’re after and you want a skilled photographer to bring your vision to life, let’s talk.
Freya graduated from the well-regarded Colorado Mountain College Commercial Photography Program in 2010 with a portfolio emphasis in adventure photography. She is an international Greenland-style kayak rolling champion, has climbed and snowboarded over 18 volcanoes from California to Washington, and speaks fluent Brazilian Portuguese and conversational Spanish. When she is not on assignment or on an adventure creating personal work, she enjoys wild foraging and tending her small garden at her home in Bellingham, Washington.
10% for change
Showing and creating a more diverse outdoor community has been a passion of mine since...well, forever. Representing women as strong, capable outdoor people who are not tokenized or hypersexualized has always been at the heart of my work, but I realized I needed to show more than that. I needed to show women and people of all shapes and colors. I needed to show the outdoor community I wish to see: racially diverse, environmentally responsible and centered around a healthy, love-filled relationship with our wild places.
I’ve been on that mission for over four years, but as my business has become more and more successful; I asked myself, “How can I do more?” I decided to pledge 10% of my profits to building a more equitable and racially diverse world and healthy environment. Environmental issues and racial issues are very much intertwined. As someone who makes a living off of showing the beauty of people and the beauty of our natural world, it only feels right to commit myself to supporting diversity in the outdoors and stewardship of the wild places we so love. This is one small way I can help be part of the change that is needed.
COVID safety is very important to my team and me. The comfort and safety of models, athletes and clients is paramount. Throughout 2020, we figured out best practices and procedures to stay safe while still getting the work done. Please reach out with your photo shoot needs and we can talk about what steps we need to take to make everything run as smoothly and safely as possible.
Email is the best way to get in touch. The phone works as well.
